Cursed Text Generator
Enter text in the input box to generate cursed, distorted versions below. The tool provides multiple cursed font styles including zalgo at three heights, fraktur, eastern, wiggly, crossed, cutout, and ancient characters, each producing a different creepy effect. The intensity slider sets how tall the zalgo stacks grow, and the switches choose whether marks go above, through, or below each letter.
The zalgo styles stack Unicode combining marks on each letter, and the others swap each letter for a look-alike Unicode character, so you can copy and paste the result into social media posts, Discord messages, and any text field that supports Unicode.
What cursed text styles are available?
The generator includes over a dozen distorted text styles. These range from light, medium, and heavy zalgo text and Gothic-style fraktur characters to inverted squared letters, eastern-influenced scripts, wiggly Unicode characters, and ancient-looking symbols. The zalgo styles pile combining marks onto each letter, and the rest substitute other Unicode characters, to produce a unique cursed appearance. You can scroll through the output panel to preview all available styles and copy the one that fits your needs. For more decorative Unicode styles without the distortion, try the Fancy Text Generator, or the Wingdings translator and its Wingdings alphabet chart for pictograph symbols.
How does cursed text work?
Cursed text, also called zalgo text, is created by stacking Unicode combining diacritical marks above, below, and through each base character. A combining mark has no width of its own: it attaches to the character before it, the way the accent in é sits on the e. Unicode puts no limit on how many can follow one letter, so when dozens are applied the result is a glitchy, distorted appearance that extends far beyond the normal line height. Because it uses standard Unicode rather than images or special fonts, the cursed text can be pasted into social media posts, chat messages, display names, and any other text field that supports Unicode input. If you want text that is hidden rather than distorted, generate invisible text that looks completely blank on screen.
For dedicated glitch text generation, see the Glitch Text Generator.
What do the intensity and mark settings change?
The intensity slider sets the most marks the Heavy row can stack above or below a letter, from 1 to 30, and the Light and Medium rows follow at a fifth and a half of it. Each letter gets a random number of marks up to that height, so the stacks look uneven. Marks above, Marks through, and Marks below choose which stacks are drawn: turn off the marks above to keep the text from running into the line before it, or keep only the marks through for a struck-out, glitchy look that stays on one line. The same text and settings always give the same result.
Why does cursed text get cut off or removed on some sites?
Every combining mark counts as a character. At the default intensity a letter in the Heavy row carries about 12 characters and one in the Light row about 5, so a short phrase can fill a character limit that looks far away. A field that hits its limit cuts the text off, often in the middle of a stack. Some sites and apps also strip combining marks, cap how many a letter can carry, or clip anything drawn outside the line, and moderation filters on forums and chat servers may delete heavy zalgo as spam. If your text is cut off, use the Light row or lower the intensity.
Does cursed text work on Discord, Instagram, and TikTok?
Yes, in messages, captions, comments, and bios, with two limits. Character counts include every mark: a Discord message holds 2,000 characters, an Instagram bio 150, and a TikTok bio 80, so bios usually need the Light row or a low intensity. Usernames on Instagram and TikTok accept only letters, numbers, periods, and underscores, so zalgo cannot go in a handle, though it can go in a display name where the platform allows Unicode. Discord servers can also run AutoMod rules or bots that remove zalgo text.
How do I remove cursed text and get the plain letters back?
Paste it into the Unicode to Text Converter, which strips the zalgo marks and also turns the fraktur, wiggly, ancient, and other look-alike letters on this page back into ordinary ones. In a text box, pressing Backspace after a cursed letter usually deletes one mark at a time, which is why the text can be slow to erase by hand.
