Strikethrough Your Text

Add a strikethrough line to any text using Unicode combining characters. Type or paste your text on the left, and the crossed-out version appears on the right in real time. Because the output is plain Unicode text rather than an HTML tag, you can copy and paste it directly into Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Discord, or any platform that supports Unicode - no special formatting tools needed.

What is Unicode strikethrough text?

Unicode strikethrough text uses a combining character (U+0336) that draws a horizontal line through each letter. Unlike HTML's <s> or <del> tags, which only work in web pages, Unicode strikethrough is embedded in the text itself. This means the crossed-out appearance is preserved when you copy and paste it into social media posts, messaging apps, emails, or any other context that supports Unicode.

How do I create strikethrough text?

  1. Type or paste your text into the left panel.
  2. The strikethrough version appears automatically in the right panel.
  3. Copy the result and paste it wherever you need it.

What is the difference between Unicode strikethrough and HTML strikethrough?

HTML strikethrough uses tags like <s> or <del> to draw a line through text, but this only works within web pages and rich text editors. Unicode strikethrough applies a combining character to each letter, so the line is part of the text itself. The advantage is that Unicode strikethrough survives copy-paste into platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Discord where HTML formatting is stripped. The tradeoff is that the line may render slightly differently depending on the font and device.

Where is strikethrough text commonly used?

Strikethrough is used to show corrections, indicate deleted or outdated information, or add a humorous or sarcastic tone to social media posts. In professional contexts, it marks text that has been revised without fully removing it, so readers can see what changed. On platforms like Twitter/X and Reddit, it is often used for comedic effect - crossing out what you "really" meant to say.

Does Unicode strikethrough work with all characters?

The combining long stroke overlay character (U+0336) can be applied to virtually any Unicode character, including letters, numbers, punctuation, and symbols from any script. However, the visual result depends on the font being used. In most fonts the line renders cleanly through standard Latin letters and digits, but it may appear misaligned or incomplete with certain characters, especially wide CJK characters or complex emoji. The effect looks best with standard Latin text.
