Superscript Generator

Our Superscript Generator converts regular text into Unicode superscript characters that sit slightly above the normal text line. Type or paste your text on the left, and the raised version is generated instantly on the right, ready to copy and paste anywhere. Because the output is plain Unicode rather than a special font, it stays intact when you paste it into social media bios, messaging apps, documents, and spreadsheets. No special software or formatting support is needed.

How to Make Superscript Text

  1. Type or paste your text into the input panel on the left.
  2. The superscript version is generated automatically in the panel on the right.
  3. Click the copy button to copy the raised text to your clipboard.
  4. Paste it into a social media bio, document, message, or anywhere else you need it.

How does the Superscript Generator work?

Superscript text is a format where characters are set slightly above the normal line of type. It is commonly used for footnotes, mathematical exponents, and scientific equations (for example, "E=mc²"). Rather than applying a font style, the tool swaps each letter, number, or symbol for its dedicated Unicode superscript character. That is why the result keeps working when you paste it into places that do not support rich text formatting.

Superscript also doubles up nicely for writing small text. The small text generator offers all three miniature styles (superscript, small caps, and subscript) together for easy comparison.

What can I use superscript text for?

Superscript has a wide range of everyday and technical uses. Some common examples you can copy below:

  • Math and exponents: x², 10⁵, 2ⁿ
  • Ordinal numbers: 1ˢᵗ, 2ⁿᵈ, 3ʳᵈ, 4ᵗʰ
  • Footnotes and citations: a reference marker like source¹ or note²
  • Trademark and copyright notes: pairing the ™ and ® symbols with small raised text in a bio or caption
  • Social media: raised subtitles in usernames, Instagram bios, and Discord nicknames, such as ⁿᵃᵐᵉ ᵐᵒᵈ

How do I type superscript on my phone?

Most phone keyboards do not have a dedicated superscript key. On Android, Gboard lets you long press a number to reveal its superscript form, but this only covers a few digits and no letters. On iOS there is no built-in option at all. The simplest method on any phone is to type your text into this generator, then copy and paste the superscript result wherever you need it.

Why don't all letters convert to superscript?

Unicode defines a superscript form for every digit (0-9) and every letter of the basic Latin alphabet, and capital letters are converted using their lowercase equivalent. Characters outside that set, such as most punctuation, accented letters, and non-Latin scripts, have no superscript version and are left unchanged so the rest of your text stays readable. You can see the full set of supported characters in the reference chart below.

Where does superscript text work?

Because the output is made of standard Unicode characters, it works almost anywhere that accepts plain text. That includes Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, Discord, WhatsApp, email, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and spreadsheets. A few apps strip or restrict unusual characters, and the exact appearance depends on the font and device displaying it, so it is worth a quick test before relying on it in an important post.

What is the difference between superscript and subscript?

Superscript and subscript are both text formatting styles that shift characters away from the baseline, but they go in opposite directions. Superscript raises characters above the line, as seen in exponents like x² or footnote markers like "source¹". Subscript lowers characters below the line, which is standard for chemical formulas such as H₂O. Both rely on Unicode character sets, and not every letter has a corresponding symbol in each set, which is why some characters may fall back to the other style when a match is unavailable.
